Student Ambassadors

Every year, we are supported by our dedicated team of Student Ambassadors who represent the University and assist us in recruiting new students from around the world. Our students are the best people to inform prospective students about life on campus, having been through the application process themselves. They have experience that’s worth sharing, especially with those who are considering studying at Sunderland.

Our Student Ambassadors work with our Home Student Recruitment service, who are responsible for recruiting students to the University by informing them of their choices and encouraging younger pupils to consider Higher Education. The Home Student Recruitment service also coordinate and deliver a range of activities aimed at raising aspirations and providing opportunities for pupils to progress to HE.

The work of a Student Ambassador is varied and may include:

  • Supporting our open days
  • Leading individual visits or campus tours
  • Assisting school visits to campus, including Destination Uni and Primary2Uni
  • Attending schools and colleges
  • Attending Higher Education fairs
  • Assisting with activities both on and off campus
  • Sitting on student panels to participate in audience Q&As
  • Assisting with the Bright Sparks STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths) Club
  • Working with your faculty to talk about your course
  • Assisting with our Summer School
  • Assisting with various marketing campaigns
  • Administrative duties

Being a Student Ambassador will boost your personal and professional development by giving you opportunities to expand your interpersonal and networking skills, meet new people, improve your public speaking and gain valuable experience in a large organisation.

Digital Student Ambassadors

Our Digital Student Ambassadors share their university experiences on our website and social media channels.

These socially-savvy students share their student life with prospective students on our instant messaging app, The Access Platform (TAP). Our Digital Student Ambassadors also have the opportunity to act as an ambassador for their faculty, course and subject area, drawing on their personal experiences.

Our Digital Student Ambassadors create their own profile on our instant messaging app platform and respond to questions from prospective students, parents/carers and influencers within 24 hours. They also have the opportunity to create content for our website and social media channels. This content is usually in the form of photos or short videos that showcase all aspects of student life, from lectures and field trips to mountain hikes and live music events!

When we hire new Student Ambassadors they are given the opportunity to become Digital Ambassadors on behalf of the University.

If you're successful in becoming a Digital Ambassador you'll also benefit from:

  • The opportunity to apply for additional assignments in the form of creative briefs. These could include giving advice on preparing for exams, recommending gigs and shows, reviewing local places to eat, and creating blogs and vlogs showcasing student life at Sunderland.
  • Flexibility to fit TAP chats around your timetable, with 24 hours to respond to chat requests
  • One hour pay per week at a rate of £12.31 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay)
